Kensington School Hosts Inspiring NILAM Program to Foster a Love for Reading
07-May-24

The Kensington School auditorium recently buzzed with excitement as students gathered for the much-anticipated NILAM program. NILAM, an acronym for "Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca" in Malay, translates to "Pulse of Reading Practice" in English. It's a nationwide initiative aimed at cultivating a passion for reading among students of all ages.

Dr. Azizul Bin Haji Ismail, the Chief of the Multiracial National Language Development Division at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, graced the occasion as the program's officiator. His presence underscored the significance of NILAM in promoting literacy and language development across diverse communities.

The objective of NILAM is crystal clear: to encourage reading habits among students. By instilling a love for books early on, the program aims to nurture lifelong learners who are not only proficient in reading but also equipped with critical thinking skills.

The event wasn't just about speeches and presentations; it was a celebration of talent and culture. Students showcased their skills through mesmerizing traditional dances and harmonious choir performances, adding vibrancy to the gathering.

As part of the program, students received NILAM books, marking the beginning of their reading journey. These books serve as companions, documenting their progress and achievements as they delve into the world of literature.

The NILAM program at Kensington School serves as a testament to the school's commitment to holistic education. Beyond academic excellence, it emphasizes the importance of cultivating well-rounded individuals with a thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning.

In a world where digital distractions abound, initiatives like NILAM play a crucial role in rekindling the joy of reading. Through programs like this, we can empower future generations to unlock the doors of imagination, creativity, and knowledge through the simple act of turning a page.
